Hi Everyone!  My name is McKenzie Smith and I am the 2011-2012 Minnesota High School Rodeo Association Queen. I am honored to represent Minnesota at the National High School Rodeo Finals and look forward to being a spokesperson for Minnesota High School Rodeo throughout the coming year.

I am an upcoming Junior at Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial High School located in South Central Minnesota. Rodeo has been a very positive addition to my life. I have been competing for the past 3 years (1 year in Junior High School Rodeo and the last 2 years in High School Rodeo). In addition to the Queen’s contest, I also compete in the events of Pole Bending, Barrel Racing, Breakaway Roping and Goat Tying.

I have met some very special friends and families throughout the past 3 years. High School Rodeo has also made me grow in so many ways. It is very competitive and has helped me become a better rider and competitor.

The 2011-2012 rodeo season got off to a great start this fall! We started off with rodeos in Granite Falls, Buffalo, MN State Fair and Wisconsin. The High School had its first border bash with the WI High School Rodeo Season and it was a good experience.

The fall rodeos will wrap up with Rodeos in Pine City October 7 & 8 and Cannon Falls October 14 & 15.

I have had lots of fun representing Minnesota High School Rodeo this past summer and fall. I attended the Buffalo PRCA Rodeo in June, Rode in the Winnebago Parade and helped with shagging at the MRA rodeo and made and appearance at the Clearwater MRA Rodeo in August. In September, I spent a day signing autographs and promoting rodeo at the Tractor Suppy Store in Mankato, MN. I also had the opportunity to volunteer at the Gillette Children's hospital doing crafts with some of the outpatient children. While at the Gillette Hospital, I got to visit Sam Bell (one of our High School Rodeo competitors who recently got hurt in a bull riding accident). It was great to see Sam doing so well with his recovery!

Looking forward to a great rest of the season! If anyone is thinking about joining High School Rodeo, give it a try!
